The Storytime Quilt

So although I haven't blogged for a while it hasn't been all that quiet at home. I've been keeping busy with my Rosalie Quinlan - Simply Blessed BOM.

 

I'm currently stitching number 3 of 9 but have only put one block together fully. I couldn't find any template plastic large enough for this 12 x 12 in block, so I used cardboard which really doesn't work as well. I do love the Tilda fabric. I purchased a bundle with a gift voucher I received, from Sew Creative Supplies and received lovely efficient service. Speaking of service, I also received my next block from Sarah at Patchworks Plus who is such a sweetie and super speedy efficient service also - that is why we keep coming back isn't it?

 

Next up was trying to finish my Storytime Quilt. I used one of my favourite designers range - Storybook by Kate and Birdie. Hence sprang the name - Storybook, with the cute Snugglepot and Cuddlepie characters together with Winnie the Pooh on the back.

 

 

Please excuse the less than lovely photos. They are all only taken with my iPhone.  I even forgot to photograph the final quilt and had to do it after the new mummy had opened the gift!  

 

Last Sunday, I was fortunate enough to attend a workshop held by the amazing Leanne Beasley. This woman just oozes talent and is incredibly inspiring. She clearly loves her work and is so passionate about sharing her creativity. If you haven't seen her magazine - Vignette, check it out, it is so lovely and has some stunning projects (on my to do list).

 

 

These were the projects we received kits for. I can't wait to make them all and hang them up. There is a perfect little spot in our home waiting for some decorating (well all our home really).

 

I finished this little one the other day. Just need to mount on a 4 x 4 canvas (when I can find one).

So, since my last post we have been on a little family holiday to one of my favourite parts of the world - Cairns, North Queensland. 

This was the view from our balcony one morning.

We did alot of this, 

and this,

Green Island has certainly changed since I last snorkeled here almost 15 years ago. 



It was such a startling reality that this reef has deteriorated to an almost unrecognisable state since my last visit. It was still beautiful but there was so much coral gone and what was left in this particular spot, was bleached terribly by the sun.

This was my five-year-old's first snorkel. We had to retrieve her a couple of times from the shipping channel as she would just swim off chasing reef sharks.

And this is Winter! Miss 8 loves her swimming as much as the rest of us.



It wasn't all fun and games, Master two got his first bout of asthma with a visit to the doctor at 4am,

shortly followed by Miss Five at a more respectable hour of 10pm, the sugarcane had just flowered and we were told this could have sparked the reactions 

And since we have been back we have had some Autumn school holiday fun in the Botanical Gardens

And now, I am making a baby quilt in a chevron pattern using strips, not half square triangles as most are constructed.

I'm hoping this is a neutral looking quilt, yes there is a flower but boys can have flowers too - anyway, it may be a girl.......

The cute piggy fabric translates to something about the sky being scattered with stars  

and in keeping with the french theme I have chosen this fabric for the back, little bit of pink and a little bit of blue......

Each alternate row of the quilt has a solid colour. I had originally chose this light grey but unfortunately had not purchased enough. I went back to purchase some more and wouldn't you know it - it was all gone. So I got the darker grey and now that I am constructing the quilt I think the lighter grey would have suited more......(insert sad face!)...hopefully once it is quilted in a light coloured cotton it will detract from the dark colour.


Now its time to finish putting it all together.

Progress

So I started this month's stitchery for our Stitch-a-long not really thinking how much more difficult it will be to 'trace' the stitchery on to darker fabric. I have ended up just drawing it on and hoping for the best. I like the darker fabric though.

Working on another bubba quilt for a sweet little girl who is getting on in age, best I finish this in the next day or two! This will be a little label appliqued onto the back.

Basting the quilt which I have decided to just back with some sweet flannette. I wanted something light even though we are going in to winter, it will be nice over the top of her pram or even in the car.

There has also been a little of this going on! We have now finished the season and little Lily will be five soon and will be able to start nippers with her big sister.
